The Gospel in Action: bringing Good News to the poor

The Gospel in Action is a video preaching project in which Dominicans around the world submit videos of ministries which put the Gospel in action or videos that inspire us to greater ministry.

Below is a video telling the stories of six Dominican friars and their prophetic ministries.
Watch these stories, and then tell your own.
Make your own video, showing how Dominicans put the Gospel in Action.
Send it to us and we will share it with the World.

Our title comes from the Gospel of Luke 4:16-21:

When Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

And Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

We Dominicans feel a special connection to Jesus' ministry of preaching, and so we ask: How is it that you and your Dominican brothers and sisters bring Good News to the poor? or How can you empower the rest of us to put the gospel in action?  Tell us in a video! Videos can be documentaries, interviews, short dramatic movies, music videos, slideshows, animation, public service announcements, or other video expressions.

We will post our own videos as well. Together, these videos will begin a conversation about what it means to be a preacher of the Good News in the 21st century.

To encourage the process, our committee will choose one video from each of the Order's five geographical regions as an outstanding example of Dominican preaching. Selection will be made on the content and the quality of the ministry, not the technical production quality of the video. A cash donation, other assistance, and/or promotion will be given to a ministry designated by the creators of each of these videos, and the five outstanding video preachings will be shown at the 2010 General Chapter of the friars in Rome.

More information about how to submit your video can be found on the page of rules and procedures.
